Hook Size Reference Chart

Remember when choosing your hook size that the large the number the smaller the stitch and vice versa. Bear in mind that this also will affect the size of the finished article.

Thread size 12, 8, 5 and 3 generally refer to Pearl cotton. However, Baroque and Speed-cro-sheen (size 3), which are heavier also use those last two number sizes. Pearl Cotton is Known for its soft sheen, thought shinier than regular mercerized threads, and soft twist and is a 2 ply thread.

Most size 10 thread is 3 ply but Knit Cro-sheen is 4 ply which will affect your gauge. Pearl Cotton - a soft 2-cord merecerized cotton tatting cotton - a fine hard twist 6 cord cotton for tatting and very fine crochet lace work crochet cotton - this is the general term for all threads in cotton fibre ranging from SpeeCro-Sheen to tatting cotton
